Electric Mills was the inspiration

for Electric City, the fictional town in

Smack Dab in the Middle of Maybe.

 

Founded in 1913, Electric Mills was ahead of its time. Known as the “brightest town south of St. Louis," Electric Mills produced its own power and had one of the first electric lumber mills in the country.

 

The once bustling community had a teaching hospital, a theater, beautiful homes, an ice cream parlor, and even minted its own currency.
